Platform Shoes - Advantages of the Concealed Platform

by Allison Rossino

Platform shoes have been worn as both a fashion statement and a way to increase a person's height without the uncomfortable, imbalanced feeling of stiletto heels. To that end, regardless of what reason you have for choosing platform options, you may not want it obvious that you are wearing platform shoes. With this considered, concealed platform shoes offered a less obvious option. Especially low height shoes with concealed platforms can be a very unremarkable way to add to your height without making your platforms obvious.

For those who want the really tall platform shoes, concealed platforms can offer a consistent look to match your outfit. Traditional platforms are made of wood, cork, plastic, or rubber, which can interrupt or not quite match with the outfit you wear. For instance, a dressy outfit with black platforms is a very slimming look, but if the platforms have cork bottoms, this can make your shoes look too casual for the occasion.

Concealed platforms allow for seamless combination with virtually any outfit. Likewise, not having cork or wood to disrupt the overall look allows for more shoes to have platform heel options. These platform shoes can include sneakers and work boot styles, in addition to traditional sandals, boots, and wedges. This increase in the ability to create other platform styles with virtually any shoe style makes platforms available for just about any occasion. The concealed, continuous fabric or other material saves from the detraction of traditional heels.

For example, platform shoes such as sneakers may be paired up with sweat pants or jeans with casual tops. That means that you can wear platform styles to relaxed affairs like BBQs, picnics, and other events where a dressier or sassier style platform might be inappropriate. Concealing the platform with rubber, leather, or fabric of the shoe makes it less obvious that the shoe is a heeled style and makes it easy to match.

Likewise, for petite wearers who have trouble finding pants and skirts that fit their height, platform shoes can give their legs the added length needed for standard length clothes. Having concealed platforms means the portion of shoe that peeks out from under long pants is the same design and color as the rest of the shoe, allowing for continuous matching of shoe to outfit. That alone, aside from the benefit of increased height, can make platforms with concealed lifts a very attractive option for those petite individuals.
